How To Fight Emotional Eating

Emotions can affect a person’s eating habits. This is very common to a lot of people. Foods serve as a source of comfort for a number of emotions. Instead of dealing with the emotion, people tend to deal with the situation by eating large quantities of food.

What Makes A Person Eat More?

There are various emotions that can lead to overeating. These emotions must be identified and dealt with properly to avoid overeating. Here is a list of the most common emotions that trigger overeating:

Depression

When a person is depressed, he tends to eat more. He finds solace and comfort in eating. The more foods that he intakes, the more he feels better. A person who is depressed thinks that nothing really matters already. He doesn’t care about his body and his health.

Anger

An angry person who can’t express their anger, just turn on foods. This is true if you are angry at yourself, the situation or someone else. Overeating seems to be a good way to release anger.

Lack Of Self Esteem

A person who thinks nobody appreciates him is prone to excessive eating. Because nobody cares, he thinks he can do anything to himself. He tends to eat everything that he wants without taking into consideration the unhealthy effects of overeating.

Boredom

A person who is bored tends to eat more. He may have nothing else to do and food seems so inviting. Food is a good companion and will help you get pass the hours. Eating will help release boredom. It is one way of keeping oneself busy.

These emotions are capable of triggering your cravings for more food. The effect depends on the person. There are those who turn to emotional eating even in the slightest depression while there are those who overeat only when they are experiencing a major emotional trouble.

Emotional eating will hinder you from losing weight and keeping your body in a healthy condition. It is important that you identify the source of your emotional eating problem and deal with it. Keeping yourself in control of your eating habits will help you achieve a long term weight loss result.

To avoid emotional eating, you must first identify the cause. What makes you more prone to emotional eating? Next, you must know when you are already into emotional eating. You should also avoid skipping meals as this will only make you crave for more food. There are those who can’t eat when depressed but when hunger strikes, they divulge on food like there is no tomorrow. After you have identified the cause, deal with it using other mediums and not food. If you feel depressed, try watching movies or going to a gym. Once you have started dealing with emotional eating, you should continue to battle it. Don’t stop yourself from emotional eating today and give in to the temptation tomorrow.
