Recently, a social media study was released by Michael Stelzner of Social Media Success Summit 2009. A significant 88% of marketers surveyed are using social media to market their businesses, but 72% of them have only been doing it for a few months or less. Not only are marketers new the social media game, but they are amercing themselves, with 64% of marketing using social media 5 hours or more per week and 39% are using social media for 10 hours or more.
Most marketers and SEO consultants are reporting that the advantage they are seeing is from generating exposure, as well as increased traffic and building new business partnerships. Twitter, blogs, LinkedIn and Facebook are the top tools of choice. From the results, it appears the marketers who use social media the least are most interested in Twitter, while those investing 16 or more hours a week are most interested in learning about FriendFeed.

Recently, The Social Media Bible: Tactics, Tools, and Strategies for Business Sources was released. It is a $30, 820-page book about social networks and a tad bit of SEO. It is reported that the SM Bible is arguably heavier than the real Bible. It is also cumbersome to think that the time it would take to read such a debatable use of paper, one could go and master Facebook and Twitter, essentially learning everything firsthand that the “Social Media Bible” would have taught them.
The Social Media Bible apparently took its name seriously, finishing each chapter with a list of commandments about the takeaways. It is even written in Bible-speak, i.e., “thou shalt not buy this book.” Not only is this idea ironic, that one would waste so much paper explaining an digital format for socializing, but it seems a waste of time. Certainly, some late adopters, laggards, or those just too darn scared to immigrate their lives digitally would buy into the whole Social Media Bible gist, but not this guy. Good luck.
